For the past 30 years the Center has addressed the social, recreational, health, and informational needs of our senior population. But thereâs more to this Center, known as the Center with a big heart. Thereâs compassion, re-assurance when you need it - and more importantly, a trained staff that knows the rights and privileges of the elder population.
The Coachella Valley is most often thought of as a resort and vacation area with palm trees, pools and golf courses. Yet, as Riverside County has grown, so have the number of full time residence and the thousands of retirees that have made this area their home. With this growth comes also the increased need for senior services. The Center has become an oasis of service to over 20,000 participants annually.
In addition to all the recreational and health activities, the Center is unique in that it has a comprehensive bilingual (Spanish/English) Case Management, Outreach and Transportation Program. This program provides assistance to low income seniors who may feel lost in the social service and health care systems. The Outreach Staff at the Center assist seniors in receiving entitlements to various low-income âCareâ programs through the public utilities and government rebate programs. Outreach Associates have a wide network of knowledge and influence and are able to connect seniors with agencies and professional services that can improve their quality of life.
The Center is constantly upgrading and expanding systems to better serve the needs of the growing senior population, as well as, the radius of service of our transportation program for the home bound, infirmed and handicapped. Last year alone over 3,000 seniors received Outreach services.
None of this would be possible if it were not for continued grants and donations upon which the Center depends upon for existence. Financial needs grow along with the growth of our senior population and cost of living increases. Generous donors through the years have supported the Center. Past donors have included The Agua Caliente Band of Mission Indians and the Auen Foundation. This website, for example, was made possible through a generous grant from the Auen Foundation. We are grateful for their support, as well as, current generous funding from the: City of Cathedral City ------ City of Rancho Mirage ------ Desert Regional Medical Center Auxiliary ------ Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange Fund -----Greenwood Foundation ----- Community Foundation of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties-----Weingart Foundation
Their support, together with the support of over 800 individual members, and of over 40 Business Members, notably our loyal corporate members, namely, Forest Lawn Memorial Park and West Coast Surveillance, the Center continues to be an outreaching oasis for seniors.
